What are some essential power tools to have when doing small and large wood crafts? In the near future I want to start making wood crafts and sell them at craft shows just as a side job. It's something I've always been interested in and I want to get an idea on how much it would cost me to get it started by making a list of power tools & machinery I would need. I already have an idea of what I might need but maybe more experienced people can name something I haven't thought of.
Does anyone know anyone who buys wood crafts? I have recently started a business selling handcrafted wood crafts. These include, clocks, silhouettes, crosses, birdhouses, bird feeders, plaques, shelves, step stools, and other misc. items. Does anyone know anyone who buys them?
What type of paint should I use for Birch wood crafts? I am trying to paint letters that have been cut from birch plywood. The home improvement store recommended spray paint (and no priming). The paint is simply sliding off the edges, but I need it to adhere. I assume that I do in fact need to prime it. Do I use oil or water based for the regular paint? Spray paint or with a brush? Please help!

Christians, would olive wood be more special then hickory or walnut for wood crafts? Since, the Bible is centered in the Mediterranian and the Middle East, would olive wood be more special then domestic ones? I have wood crafts I have made of hickory, walnut, maple, etc. but Jesus never knew anything about them because they are American woods, because our country wasn't even known until many centuries after the Bible was completed. That is why I'm interested in olive wood from Israel. I recently bought a piece of olive wood, but later found out it was African olive wood, but the part of that continent it came from isn't mentioned in the Bible either. EDIT: Even though the African species is different from the Mediterranian specis?

materials for wood crafts with acrylic? I'm getting confused with the materials that I need to use when painting wood crafts, basically is it ok to use the acrylic primer and sealant/topcoat that is typically used in houses? I noticed they are more expensive. let's say I'm painting my closet, i sand it first then apply my primer. Do i use gesso or just the primer from ordinary hardware stores? I paint my closet using acrylic paint from the hardware stores, then paint the design using a stencil using acrylic paint that are sold in tubes (the one that artists use). After drying, I apply a topcoat/sealant - again do I use the one sold in art shops or the one that are used in houses? Any input would be extremely helpful. I'm so confused! Yes I plan to put details on my closet. Oooh i thought gesso was for wood also. What topcoat do I use? I'm thinking I have to coat the entire closet and not just the design right? Coz the texture will be different? So just use household topcoat?
What crafts are good for someone who cant get out of the house? I have a gradually increasing problem with anxiety and panic attacks which causes me to stay in the house a lot. (The medication doesn't make it easy either, ironically.) I've tried painting, including wood crafts, and knitting. What are some ideas for crafts and fun things to do while I'm trapped in my house?

Where in the UK can you buy wood for carving/turning/furniture making/crafts etc.? I'm looking hopefully for specific names/contact details of places that sell such wood. Or if not, at least suggestions of where I could find that information. I need wood that hasn't had much done to it and is still in a fairly raw state (bark still on etc.). Thank you! I think timber merchants tend to sell wood that is in uniform neat sheets with all lumps and bark etc. taken off? I want something much rawer than that.
How do I get a high gloss finish on my wood craft? I've painted a wood doll with artist acrylic paint. To finish it, i applied 2 coats of a semi-gloss polyurethane spray. The result is not glossy enough. What can i do to create a smooth high gloss finish on top of what I've already done?
Painting wood crafts? Hi! I'm a beginner on painting on wood. I'd like to paint (using acrylic) floral details on my wooden bread box and I read that I should always use a primer. Unfortunately there are no clear primers in my area (Philippines - art/hardware supplies are really short) so I would like to ask if there's an alternative to the clear primer, or if there's another way to prepare the wood prior to painting it. I really like the wood finish and I really want to keep it if I can. Help pls! Thank you!
What's the best way to design wood craft patterns and sell them? I like to design patterns for decorative wood items like snowmen, halloween things, etc. I would like to try selling the patterns. I have designed them for myself to make, but how do I make them so they can be enlarged and used by others? Thanks in advance! http://www.the-best-homemade-gift-ideas.com The patterns are done in paper so they can be enlarged on a photo copy machine. I am trying to figure out the best way to market them so they can be sold to others. Or is there a website out there that has ideas on how to sell patterns that you make?
what is a good wood craft to sell online? My husband is a woodworker and we're looking to make some extra $$. He's had a lot of success selling handmade "magic" wands, Harry Potter style, on ebay. But we're looking for suggestions on some other things he can make and sell. Any ideas or suggestions?
How do I prepare wood crafts for painting? I bought some little wooden birdhouses (unpainted) that I plan to decorate with acrylic craft paints, for Christmas presents. The only thing is that I'm not sure whether or not I need to prime the birdhouses before I apply the craft paint. Can I just give them a coat of plain white acrylic craft paint, or should I use something else? Suggestions for types of products and brands would be appreciated. I have an A.C. Moore and a Jo-Ann Fabrics near where I live, so that determines brand availability.
Carving a little sculpture from craft wood? For an art project, I want to make a small tree (about 8-10" tall) with branches. Well, at first I considered making it out of paper mache, but I want to keep it when I'm done, and paper mache will get bad after a couple years. So i thought about carving one out of craft wood. What type of wood would be best? Balsa wood - the kind I can get at hobby lobby? If not, where would I go? What should I know before I start?

What should my 5 yr old nephew use to color wood? My nieces and nephew are coming over and I'm trying to plan activities. I bought some kid's craft wood for us to decorate. They're thin pieces of wood with designs printed on them in black. I got door hangers, book marks, small picture frames. I also got Crayola washable glitter glue. But, I'm clueless about what I should get to color them with. Paint? Markers? Crayons? And what kind? I'm not sure what would work well on wood. I'm thinking of my 5 yr old nephew in particular because he's the youngest. Whatever I get for him, everyone else will use. Any suggestions?

am looking for Unfinished Wood/MDF crafting photo frames? The frames I'm looking for are unfinished and for crafting purposes. They have open space around the photo area for paper crafting or adding embellishments. For example, I found one that measured 12x12 and off to the center, left-hand side of the 12x12 area was a 4x6 (I think) photo area complete with glass to insert a photo. The frame also had a stand. They are either masonite or MDF.

Anyone have any staining/painting tips for craft painting on bare wood? That was hard to put into words. I'm learning onestroke painting. I have some bare wood plaques that I'd like to paint on. When I stain them first the paint hardly shows up (it's folk art acrylic paint) and when I leave them bare the paint shows up fine but the overall look is just plain I guess. I am looking to find some tips from other crafters, ideas of stains or other finishing products to use and what steps I'd take to accomplish this! Hope this is worded well enough! Thanks for any help at all!
Is is called wood craft? There is a group of skills that no one really cares about any more, but that I have always wanted to be good at. I think they may be called wood craft, I am not quite sure. But anyway, they are things like tracking (animals) being silent while walking, being able to find my way when i leave a trail, being able to identify plants... The best comparison that I know of of people with these kinds of skills are Robin Hood and Aragorn. I suppose knowing this is sort of a childhood dream. I know that this sounds somewhat cheezy, but if you will bide with my romantisizm, please let me know what these things are called as a group and how I can attain them. I would really appreciate it. Thank you all.
