Making primitive and americana crafts

I was wondering if anyone had experience in making these products and if so could you refer me to a good website or book that would help me in starting. I decorated my living room in this style and spent way too much money and decided that I want to learn to make them myself in the future. I found a few sites that were helpful but I was looking for free patterns just to try out and see if I can even do it (I dont really know how to sew, though I am going to teach myself) Any help would be appreciated.

1. I have noticed items people were selling by going to free photo or image websites like photobucket.com You can get ideas from there. Also, check on e-bay and amazon.com to see if they offer any books or DVDs.
